Oregon Grape Root – Cut & Sifted Organic Dried Herb
Mahonia aquifolium
Oregon Grape Root (Mahonia aquifolium) is a flowering shrub from the Berberidaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of western North America. The plant reaches 1–2 meters in height, with spiny, holly-like pinnate leaves and vibrant yellow spring flowers followed by dusty blue berries. The root and root bark have a distinctive golden-yellow hue due to the presence of berberine, a plant alkaloid also found in goldenseal. Oregon Grape Root is frequently used as an alternative to goldenseal in traditional botanical preparations. The cut and sifted dried root is suitable for use in herbal teas, decoctions, tinctures, and apothecary-style botanical preparations.
