Lemon Balm – Cut & Sifted Organic Dried Herb
Melissa officinalis
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herb from the Lamiaceae (mint) family, native to south-central Europe, the Mediterranean, and Central Asia and naturalized throughout temperate regions. The plant reaches 70–150 cm in height with a branching square stem and broadly ovate leaves that release a pleasing lemon fragrance when bruised. Small white to yellowish flowers appear in loose clusters from June to October. Lemon balm — whose genus name Melissa comes from the Greek word for honey bee — is one of the most widely cultivated aromatic botanicals in Europe, valued for its culinary use in teas, salads, soups, sauces, wines, and vinegars. The dried cut and sifted herb is suitable for use in herbal teas, herbal blends, culinary preparations, and cosmetic formulations. Also known as Sweet Balm, Sweet Melissa, and Common Balm.
